Lying south off the shores of the Turkish coastline, the island of Cyprus is divided into two sections. To the north, the Turkish language is spoken and Greek in the south. The ideal way to reach the island is by air. The south can be reached from many European cities, however to access Northern Cyprus you must first travel via Turkey.
Many visit Cyprus to indulge in the wide range of leisure activities it offers – an ideal relaxing holiday destination catering to all budgets. In the north the historical sites are also of importance. Kyrenia castle houses a 2300 year ship wreck. See medieval walls of the city of Famagusta and its elegant Ottoman houses.
South you are able to take in its beautiful beaches at one of the south coast resort towns if you wish. The Troodos Mountians form the backbone of the island and welcome relief from the hot summer sun. A place not to miss is the ancient ruined city of Amathus.
